More about 28th St surfspot

General: 28th street is marked by the first groin south of Flagship. Although usually not a good surfing wave since the groin is too short, it can be a good spot to paddle out to get to the south peak at Flagship when there is a strong south to north current. Tides: Medium to high Size: Waist high to a few feet overhead Wind: N, NW, WNW with swell Swell: S, SE Bottom: Sand. Paddling: Can be tough to stay in position if it is breaking outside the jetty. Spot Rating: Can occasionally light up if everything comes together.

Beginner to advanced

Easy, paid parking on the seawall.

Late summer/fall; late winter to mid-spring

Crowd Factor: Can be crowded in the summer with local surf schools. Local Vibe: Positive, but sometimes too crowded with beginners.

Proximity to Houston shipping channel and runoff from Galveston equals often not the best water quality.

Unskilled surfers in line-up.
