5th Street is a surf spot that has its own vibe, located near a jetty. It’s not the most well-known place, but it offers some decent waves. The sand build-up here creates a steep sucky left wave, which can be fun when the conditions are right. It works best during big northeast swells, but be aware that south swells usually don’t do much for this spot.
The surfing here is best for intermediate surfers. A good wave can be caught when the swell is coming from the northeast or east, with wave sizes around 2 to 6 feet (0.6 to 1.8 meters). The left wave breaks over sand, and it's worth checking out when the tide is low, mid, or even high. For the best conditions, look for winds coming from the northwest. Just keep in mind, the wave can get a bit crowded, especially in the summer.
Watch out for the long, exposed stormwater pipes sticking out in the surf at high tide—these can be hazards. In addition, there are often summer surfing restrictions and quite a few taggers in the area. It’s a good spot to know about if you’re in the local surf scene.
