61st street stands out as the best option for shortboarders since good sandbanks usually form N of the jetty and T head pier. With the right conditions, peaks appear anywhere along the extensive seawall spreading the crowds.
General: A jetty/pier combination that provides a consistent bottom, 61st Street has a jetty that, while the north side tends to be better, either side can fire. Tides: Medium to high Size: Waist to a few feet overhead Wind: N, NW; WNW with a swell Swell: S, SE Bottom: Sand. Paddling: The rip by the jetty makes easy to get out, however, most days the longshore currents will make it tough stay in position on the pier bowls. Spot Rating: Fun peaks and a few barrels when there is swell.
