More about Aberavon surfspot

Fast, wedging left off a rocky groyne that’s not been so good since the breakwater extension. Average peaks further N up the beach. Banks haven’t seen the sand loss of the Gower beaches. Like all breaks in this area, needs pushing tides to high water to get swell in up the channel.

General: One of the region's most famous spots, whose industrial setting, complete with steel works, is in stark contrast to its nearby Gower cousins. The breakwater here helps sculpt the sand to create a prominent bank that fires long lefts and short rights from low to mid, while high tide sees the waves rebounding off the breakwater warping the line-up. This spot is capable of holding a decent sized swell. Tides: Low to mid. Size: Thigh high to head and a half. Wind: NE Swell: W/SW Bottom: Sand. Paddling: Rippy when big. Spot Rating: Excellent in clean swells when a picture perfect A frame can form.

Crowded, heavy and rippy so not for inexperienced.

Exiting the water can be tricky at high. Parking close to breakwater.

Difficult in and out of the water. Renowned poor water quality improving all the time, seals and dolphins have been witnessed. Banks havent seen the sand loss of the Gower beaches. Jetskis can be a problem.

September - February.

Crowd Factor: Large local crew. Local Vibe: Competitive.

Renowned poor water quality is improving all the time. Be aware this is a designated jetski area. Hard to get out at high when sizey. Park on promenade.
