Abras surf guide

Abras is a surf spot known for its unique conditions, but it can be pretty fickle at times. It's one of the best lefts on the island, but don't get your hopes up too high unless the conditions are just right. You’ll want to watch for a solid N-NE swell to really get the waves working. The spot can get tricky with nasty rocks, making getting in and out more of a hassle than you might want.

The best time to hit Abras is with a low tide and a swell coming from the North or NorthEast. When the swell hits about 5 feet (1.5 meters), that's when you'll start to see some action. The waves begin as an open barrel, which can be exciting, but it can turn into a fast and hollow section that may close out quickly. You’ll want to have some experience under your belt because it’s definitely not for beginners. If the wind is coming from the SouthWest, it’s better for shaping up those waves into something rideable.

Keep in mind that with the uneven reef below, conditions can change fast. It’s a good idea to come prepared and know what you’re dealing with at Abras. While it can be a challenge, those who are experienced can find some rewarding waves when everything aligns just right.
