Agate Beach - Newport surf guide
Surf: Average beachbreak from one end of this busy beach town to the other, but even so a pretty surf-stoked stretch of coast. North of town is Agate Beach, the areaβs most popular spot, a wide expanse of decent beachbreak protected from N wind by the massive promontory of Yaquina Head. Great longboard waves at Agate, which works at most tides, breaking close to shore on high tide, then getting hollower and more lined up as it goes lower and moves out. Good beginner spot when small, can hold a huge swell β easily double overhead. Close to the head, a rip provides genteel transport out to the line-up.
Environment: Plenty of parking at the Agate Beach wayside. Some shark danger. Surf shops to serve all your aquatic needs.
