Agua de Alto is a solid surf spot located on a south-facing beach. It's often the second choice for surfers when Populo gets too packed. The beach is known for its consistent waves and has a generous swell window, picking up swells from various directions, including NE and W. This isn't the most spectacular location compared to Populo, but it does have a laid-back vibe and plenty of space to spread out.
The surf at Agua de Alto is generally beginner-friendly, making it an ideal place for those just starting out. You can expect waves that handle sizes around 2 ft. (0.6 meters), with beach breaks rolling over sand. The waves can break left and right, offering some variety for surfers. This spot works best with a south swell but can pick up NE swells too. It’s good to hit this beach during low to mid, and even high tides, as it can provide decent conditions with preferable winds coming from the north.
The environment at Agua de Alto is fairly consistent and rarely crowded, thanks to the rips that help shape the sandbars. It's a nice escape where you can catch some waves without the hustle and bustle you might find at other more popular spots.
