Ahu Ahu is a surf spot known for being the last location that provides decent shelter from any south winds. It's got a mix of waves with an outside left, an inside left, and some peaks scattered over boulders and sand. Whether you hit it during low, mid, or high tide, you can usually count on some action, especially on the inside beach break.
This spot handles swell sizes starting from 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and works best with swells coming in from the southwest and north. You can catch both lefts and rights here, making it a decent choice for surfers of all abilities, especially beginners. The ideal wind direction is from the southeast, which helps to clean up the waves and make them more fun to ride.
Ahu Ahu often attracts a mellow crowd, including cruisers, stand-up paddleboarders, and windsurfers, particularly when the winds are coming in cross-shore from the west. Just a heads-up, there was a fatal shark attack around here back in the '60s, so keep that in mind while you enjoy the waves.
