Airport Rights surf guide

Airport Rights is a surf spot located near the airport in Bali. It offers a unique blend of accessibility and wave quality, but it can be a bit tricky to nail down the right conditions. The waves can be hit or miss, needing a solid chunky SW to W swell and the right tide to really deliver. When the stars align, surfers can enjoy some decent rides, but don’t expect it to be firing all the time.

The waves here break over a shallow coral reef with a right-hand direction, mostly favoring more experienced surfers. The optimal swell direction is Southwest, but it can also handleSouth and West swells. A good day can see swell sizes around 4ft (about 1.2 meters) and higher, especially during mid to high tide. The speed can be quite intense, and it’s often considered an experts-only spot when it’s really on. This means you'll want to be at least an intermediate surfer to handle the fast, shallow conditions safely.

It’s a bit of a trek to get out there, with about a 1km paddle required, so many surfers opt for a boat from north Jimbaran Bay. Keep in mind that when the waves are good, it can get crowded quickly, as local surfers know the quality of the breaks here. The preferred wind direction is NorthEast, which can help clean up the waves. Make sure to check the forecast before heading out to catch it at its best!
