Aquin Islands – Grande Cay Aquin is a surf spot that you can reach by boat from Aquin. It’s located on the lee side of Grande Cay Aquin, and once you arrive, you can take some footpaths to explore the south side. There are also more good reef breaks to the west of the island. The area is in the process of some development, including plans for a cruise ship port.
The surf here is a speedy short righthander. You need to be ready for a critical takeoff, and there's a bowling section that can make for some fun rides. The best conditions usually happen with a southeast swell, and the spot handles swell sizes from 1ft (about 0.3 meters) and can also work with east and south swells. The waves break over a mix of rock ledge and sand, and the preferable wind direction is northwest. The best tide heights for surfing here are during low and mid tides, making it a good spot for intermediate surfers looking for a bit of a challenge.
Apart from the surfing, it’s worth checking out the surrounding area, as there are other good reefs to discover if you’re up for an adventure. Just remember that access is primarily by boat, so plan your trip accordingly. Being in a developing area, the vibe can change, but for now, it’s a chill spot to catch some waves.
