Arrecifes surf guide

Arrecifes is a surf spot located within Parque Nacional Tayrona, known for its natural beauty and varied terrain. It's a bit of a trek to get there, taking about an hour to walk through the jungle to reach the beach. Once you arrive, you’ll find less crowded waves compared to the nearby areas like Barranquilla and Cartagena. The scenery is stunning, with lush jungles and rocky outcrops lining the beach.

The waves at Arrecifes are fairly consistent, with the best breaks coming from the northeast and northwest swells. These waves can handle sizes starting from about 1 ft (0.3 m), breaking over rock ledges and sand. The most reliable wave breaks off a set of large granite boulders at the eastern end of the beach, providing a right-hand wave that can be fun to ride. It’s worth noting, though, that the wave can close out often, making it better suited for intermediate surfers rather than beginners. The ideal wind comes from the southwest, and it works well during low, mid, and high tides.

One of the perks of surfing at Arrecifes is the option for staying close to the beach, either in accommodations or by hammock camping. This makes it easy to enjoy the spot for a few days without feeling rushed. In addition to Arrecifes, you can find other waves to explore within the park, including Playa 7 Olas, offering more options if you’re keen to check out different breaks during your visit.
