Assinie is the most popular surf destination in the country, a powerful beachbreak that breaks fast and hollow over sand. It picks up just about any available swell, and its peaks are named after the kilometre road signs along the coast. Both lefts and rights peel off the sandbars.
When It Works
Assinie is a consistent break that draws swell from south to southwest, with south swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, handling overhead conditions before it closes out. Winter tends to bring smaller, cleaner surf that suits beginners, while bigger days can make the paddle out punishing.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind, which often leaves it glassy in the morning and evening. It comes in on mid to high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
With its smaller, cleaner winter days, Assinie is a friendly spot for beginners. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working. Watch for currents and murky water up near the rivermouth.

There's paid parking near the break. You'll find camping and a surf school here, along with plenty of hotels and two surf camps, including Assinie Surf Camp.
