Aviones surf guide

Aviones is often seen as one of the most consistent surf spots on the island. Itโ€™s located close to San Juan, making it a convenient option for both locals and travelers. The unique setup of the reef allows for solid waves even when other spots are flat. However, be ready for crowds on good days, as this place gets popular fast.

The surf here is typically punchy and can range from chest-high to well overhead (around 1-2.5 meters). The waves break over a reef, providing both right and left sections that can form nice barrels on standout days. For swell directions, it really excels with Northwest and North swells, but it can handle a bit from North-Northwest, North-Northeast, and Northeast too. You're likely to find decent waves between 3ft to 8ft (about 1-2.4 meters). The best days usually require a strong southeast or south wind, and you'll want to time it with low to mid tides for the best results.

Getting in and out can be tricky since there's just one spot for entry and exit. If you miss it, expect to battle some sea urchins. It can blow out by midday, so getting in early is key. You can park right nearby and itโ€™s nice to toss a couple of bucks to the locals watching over the area. Just keep in mind the local vibe can get pretty intense, especially when the waves are firing.
