Spiting beachbreaks often closeout on the thumping sandbars of Bajos del Polonio, but it can pick up all swell directions and occasionally get classic in the sheltered lee of Cabo Polonio. NE-E wind is not a problem, but rips and getting cleaned up is when it gets overhead. Other beaches to explore on the north side include Calavera, Valizas and Aquas Dulces.
It’s 230km (143mi) from Montevideo and is home to the second largest colony of seals in the country.
