More about Bakio surfspot

Very consistent, popular beachbreak. Can produce excellent waves with some barrel sections, depending on sandbar formations which change constantly.

General: Playa de Bakio may not be the top most people's list of places to surf in the Basque Country, but it is one that many visitors will find they do actually get to surf. Unlike their more famous and temperamental neighbor lying in the nearby Ria de Mundaka, Bakio is a beachbreak renown for its consistency and flexibility. A small stream dissects the town beach; to the west a large expanse of open sand with scattered peaks while to the east a series of rocky outcrops allow sand to build up into more reliable banks. In bigger swells a quality right breaks off this end and the locals will be on it. The crew here is pretty tight so come with a relaxed attitude. There has been some localism here. Tides: All Size: Knee high-well overhead Wind: S Swell: NW, N Bottom: Sand Paddling: Not bad on the average day, tougher when there is significant swell in the water. Spot Rating: Can get good on a proper swell, otherwise an average, consistent beachbreak.

Crowd Factor: Large local crew Local Vibe: Largely tolerant but humility and respect go a long way.

. People come here from Mundaka when the swell is small, adding to the already large local surfing population. A small degree of localism. A very popular beach resort in summer. Plenty of parking space with large car parks near the beach, although can be difficult in summer. Good beach facilities. Some river and stormwater pollution.

Not bad, can get dirty when it rains.
