Bandol is a surf spot located in the south of France, known for its picturesque setting and consistent waves. It’s not the most famous surf destination, but it can deliver some fun sessions, especially for those who know what they’re doing. The main surf beach here is Renécros, which features some rocky sections that can be tricky, so keep that in mind while paddling out.
When it comes to surfing at Bandol, the best conditions usually roll in with a southwest swell. You can expect waves that work best at about 0.6 meters (2 feet) and can break both left and right over an uneven reef. The waves can range from a hollow but very short right to a longer left. The swell can handle various sizes, but true to the spot, it's better suited for expert surfers due to its technical nature and rocky hazards. To get the best out of the waves, aim for low to mid tide, and a northwest wind is what you’ll want. If you head a bit further east to Portissol, you might also catch a short barrel, especially on those sheltered days away from the Mistral winds.
While Bandol can have some good days, keep in mind that it doesn’t have the highest consistency for surfing, and locals can be a bit touchy about outsiders. It’s a cool spot if you’re in the area, but don’t expect to find epic surf every time you show up.
