Barrio surf guide

Barrio, also known as Inside Dako, is a surf spot located on Daku Island, just a short pump boat ride from General Luna. This spot is situated on the channel side of the island and tends to be less crowded than many other surf locations in the area. It offers a laid-back vibe, making it a good choice for those looking to escape the bustle of General Luna.

The waves at Barrio primarily break right over a Live Coral reef, providing a decent ride for beginners. The spot handles swell sizes around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters), and the optimal swell direction is from the east, although it can also pick up swells from the north and east. The best time to surf here is during mid to high tide, especially when the wind is coming from the southwest, which offers the cleanest conditions. While the reef cuts some swell size, itโ€™s still manageably fun for those looking to improve their skills.

If Barrio gets crowded or the conditions aren't great, consider checking out the exposed eastern tip of Daku Island. There's potential for more challenging waves there, along with some low to mid tide rides in front of Guyam Island. Overall, Barrio can be a solid stop for surfers looking to practice in a more relaxed setting.
