Basse-Pointe surf guide

Basse-Pointe is a surf spot located in Martinique, known for its unique setup near the port. Getting in can be a bit tricky, particularly for newcomers, but it's worth it if you're chasing some waves. Although the area gets consistent surfers, it’s not one of those spots that always delivers perfectly clean conditions. You’ll often find surfers making the most of what’s available here.

The surf at Basse-Pointe works best with NorthEast swells but is also capable of handling swells coming from the North and East. When conditions align, you can expect workable waves with some decent length, especially on the right-hand breaks. The swell can reach around 1 meter (3 feet) and breaks over an uneven reef. It's important to note that while the right breaks usually have longer walls, the lefts across the channel can be quite hollow and often challenging, if not unrideable. SouthWest winds are preferable for cleaner surf, and the waves can be surfed across a range of tide heights—low, mid, and high.

When it comes to skill level, Basse-Pointe tends to attract intermediate surfers due to its various conditions that can be less forgiving at times. Even on onshore days, you might find some rideable waves, which keeps the lineup busy. If you're planning a session here, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the swell direction and wind to make the most of your time in the water.
