Batu Hiu surf guide

Batu Hiu is located between Batu Karas and Pangandaran, along a stretch of beachbreaks. It offers a mix of waves, but keep in mind that the area has its challenges. There are often strong currents and onshore winds that can make for tricky conditions. While it might not be the top spot on your list, the sandbanks can actually get better during the wet season, so that’s something to consider if you’re planning a visit.

The waves here are generally beach breaks, hitting from both the left and right. This spot handles swell sizes around 2 ft (0.6 m) and is best when the swell direction is coming from the south or west. If you’re looking to catch some surf, aim for mid to high tide, especially when the wind is blowing from the northwest. This can make a real difference in the quality of the waves. However, this place is more suited for intermediate surfers, so be prepared for that if you’re planning a session.

In addition to the surf, it's good to know that the environment can feel a bit inconsistent and often empty, meaning you might find yourself with a lot of space in the water. This can be nice if you're looking for a less crowded experience, but don’t expect the waves to be firing all the time. Just keep an eye on the conditions, and you might find some fun sessions at Batu Hiu.
