Batu Layar surf guide

Batu Layar is located on the eastern side of the peninsula and is known for its triangular-shaped landmark that gives the spot its name, which means "Sail Rock." This surf spot can be a bit inconsistent, requiring the right conditions to really work. Generally, it needs a head-high South swell to get going, along with clean conditions provided by a wet season West wind. Lower tides can help the wave pick up speed, but at high tide, it tends to get a bit fat.

The best time to surf Batu Layar is when the swell comes from the SouthEast or SouthWest, with optimal sizes reaching about 6 feet (around 1.8 meters). The waves break over dead coral and typically roll in as right-handers, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. For the best conditions, aim for mid-tide sessions, when the wave has the chance to perform at its best with the West wind blowing in your favor.

Keep in mind that, while Batu Layar has its moments, it can be hit or miss depending on the swell and wind conditions. So, if you're planning to surf here, it's worth checking the forecast before heading out. Enjoy the ride!
