Bawa is a remote surf spot known for its challenging waves and unique conditions. Located in a less crowded area, it’s a go-to place when the wind shifts onshore from the northwest. The spot isn’t always reliable, but when the conditions align, it brings in powerful surf that attracts experienced surfers looking for a wild ride away from the more popular spots like Lagundri.
This break works best with a south or southwest swell and can handle sizes of around 3 feet (0.9 meters) up to bigger swells. The waves break over a gnarled reef, creating right-hand waves that can form hollow tubes, especially in the inside bowl section. Mid tide is the sweet spot for catching the best waves here, and you’ll want a northwest wind to keep conditions ideal. The waves can be quite challenging, so it’s definitely a spot for expert surfers who know how to handle powerful surf.
While you’re there, keep in mind that Bawa picks up more swell than many other spots in the area, making it a solid choice when the swell is on. Just be prepared for a crowd of other experienced surfers when the conditions are good, as they’ll all be looking to score some epic rides.
