Overview
Bean Hollow State Beach is a pocket cove tucked behind protective cliffs. It rarely gets surfed, but it's worth a look when windswell is running. The short but sweet lefts off the south end are the main draw, and a few rights can break off the rockpile to the north.
When It Works
This is an inconsistent spot, so it takes the right setup to come alive, and windswell is usually your best window. Waves break over a mix of boulders and sand, and it draws swell from south through north, with a west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean things up. Mid tide is best here, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Bean Hollow suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay quiet, so you'll likely find plenty of space when it's breaking. Worth keeping in mind: from here south to Pigeon Point sits deep in the Red Triangle.
