Bilgola Beach surf guide

Bilgola Beach is a laid-back surfer's spot located on Sydney's northern beaches. It offers a break that suits those looking to escape the busier surf areas like Newport and Avalon. The beach has a mix of sand and some uneven reef, which contributes to the overall vibe of the place. It's a spot where you can enjoy a chill day by the waves without feeling overcrowded.

The waves here are generally mellow, rolling and crumbling nicely over the sandbars, which makes it a good spot for beginners and improvers. Optimal swell direction is from the NorthEast, but the beach can also handle swells from the South. When conditions are right, you'll find fun waves hitting at around 3 feet (approximately 1 meter). You can catch both lefts and rights, depending on how the swell hits the beach. The best wind for surfing is from the NorthWest, and you can enjoy the waves at pretty much any tide—low, mid, or high, it all works here.

The surrounding environment is semi-tropical, making it a nice place to hang out after catching some waves. Just keep in mind that there are some rocks at either end of the lineup, so be a bit cautious when picking your spot to paddle out.
