Biologia is located just north of the city's port, near Playa Grande. This spot is known for its surf scene and attracts a good number of local surfers. While it’s not the most exclusive break, it has its charm and can be enjoyable for those who know what to expect. The line-up is easily accessible, especially with the current that flows from the northern jetty, making it a popular spot to hang out and ride some waves.
The left break off the tip of the jetty is the main attraction here, especially with a Northeast swell. It works best when the swell is around 1 ft (0.3 m). The spot can also produce rights that head toward the rocks and sometimes even a right that leads into the next bay, depending on the swell direction. You'll find that lower tides can really make the waves hollow, which can be fun but also challenging for those at an intermediate skill level. For the best conditions, aim for offshore winds coming from the west.
The environment can get crowded, particularly when the surf is smaller. However, when a bigger East swell rolls in, it tends to push away a lot of the less experienced surfers, leaving it for the more capable riders. If you're looking for a fun session with some decent waves and don’t mind sharing the water, Biologia can be a solid choice.
