Black Spot surf guide

Black Spot is the last break in County Donegal, located at the next protruding point after Pampa. It's known for pulling in the swell, making it a spot for experienced surfers looking for a challenge. The area can get pretty wild with the tides, in particular at low tide, where you'll find some serious barrels. As the tide pushes in, the rights become more manageable, but they still have that hollow feel that can keep you on your toes.

This spot works best with a NorthWest swell, holding its own with swell sizes around 1 meter (3 feet). The waves break over uneven reef, and you’ll find both left and right-handers on offer. The preferred wind is from the SouthEast, which helps clean up the waves. Ideally, it can handle all tide heights, but low to mid tide is often where you'll find the most action. It definitely caters to expert surfers only, so make sure you’re confident in your skills when you head out.

For those looking to warm up or take a breather, the Drowes Rivermouth nearby offers some intermediate-friendly peaks. Just remember, getting in and out can require a tricky rock hop, so be prepared for that as well.
