More about Blacks Reef surfspot

Blacks Reef is a good quality reef peak, with a nice barrel section. The rights are hollower and longer, but lefts appear in more SE-E swells. It is a super consistent stretch including the adjacent powerful beachbreaks and the Cliffs peaks. Well sheltered from the winds and it's usually better on the push.

From Napier, head north on Pandora Road State Highway 2, onto Meeanee Quay and Main North Road out of the city. Continue on State Highway 2 through Wairoa, then at Nuhaka go straight through the roundabout onto Nuhaka Opoutama Road. Continue along and when the road meets the coast, just along a little bit there will be two car parks and a reef out front. park up and get out there.

Gets crowded as it is closest spot from the north and west.
