Bloody Foreland is a surf spot located on the northwest tip of Donegal. It features a righthand point break that breaks over boulders, making it a unique and somewhat technical spot to surf. It’s known as a swell magnet, which means it picks up waves well, but don’t get your hopes too high since it can often get blown out and messy. It’s a place best suited for those who know what they’re doing out on the water.
The optimal swell direction here is from the west, while it can also handle swell coming from the southwest and north. It works well with swells up to about 4ft (1.2 meters). If you're planning to surf, the waves typically break right, and the best wind conditions are from the southeast. It’s good to note that you can surf at various tide heights—low, mid, or high—but this spot is definitely more suited for expert surfers due to the tricky boulders and strong currents in the water.
Getting to Bloody Foreland involves taking a narrow lane on the right after passing the viewpoint. There’s a grass area at the bottom where you can park. Just keep in mind that the environment can be a bit rugged with exposed rocks and strong currents, so it’s essential to be careful while scouting your entry and exit points.
