Blowhole is a surf spot situated about half a mile north of the beach-access ramp inside Anastasia State Recreation Park. It was once an inlet but has since filled in completely. This spot tends to be consistently larger than other nearby breaks, making it a good option for surfers looking for more than just small waves. Expect a crowd if there's any swell around, and be aware of some submerged tree stumps in the area. Vehicles aren't allowed to drive along the sand anymore, so be ready for a bit of a trek to reach the waves.
This break works best with an East to Southeast swell and prefers low tide, but it can also break during higher tides with bigger swells. If you're catching waves here, you can ride lefts and rights over sand. The optimal swell size to aim for is around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters), but it can handle swells from different directions like North and South too. For those just starting out, this spot is suitable for beginners, especially if the wind is coming from the Southwest and you're going for those low or mid tide sessions.
While hitting Blowhole, keep in mind that the crowd can get thick if the waves are decent. It's a good idea to check conditions before trudging out. The beach is pretty chill, but remember that you’ve got to be cautious around those hidden tree stumps under the water.
