On the north side of Mangamaunu, Blue Duck Stream provides enough sand for the waves to keep breaking right through the high tide, but it will probably be a bit fat.
Blue Duck is located just north of Mangamaunu at the Blue Duck Stream, north of Kaikoura. From Kaikoura Drive north on State Highway 1 for about 20mins. Continue just past Mangamaunu to the Blue Duck Stream, and turn left onto Blue Duck Valley Road to park. Cross the railway tracks to the beach.
Iron Gate has a bit more NE protection but can't handle the higher tides.
