Surf: The highlight of Itacaré surf is Boca da Barra, a super-long, fun righthander that peels across a sandbank at the mouth of the River Contas. With a SE-S swell and a low incoming tide, rides of over 600m are possible, streaking across long walls and through a few hollower sections. There are lefts off the peak but they are fat and slow into the river flow, which is the conveyor belt out to the distant line-up. Environment: Only experienced surfers and strong paddlers should take it on and dropping tides can have horrendous rips. Crowding is not a problem, but sharks are about and this far from the beach, it's best to not surf alone.
