More about Bridge's Point surfspot

Despite isolation, no local surfers, and poor inter-island flight service, Kiritimati has long been known to have good waves. The largest coral island in the world became part of Kiribati in 1979 and has a rapidly growing population of 7000 people. Being an avid fly fisher of the fabled “bone fish”, Patagonia’s founder Yvon Chouinard has been a Xmas addict since 1984, as well as North Shore photographer Bernie Baker. Chuck reckons there are 18 spots in a 8km/5mi radius from London to Poland Point. Bridge’s Point is the obvious spot with a fun right, holding double overhead walls, sometimes referred as a mix between Maalaea and Trestles. NNW swells will make long and fast walls while W swells will bump up good bowls off the point which can shoulder and roll 150m to the lagoon, perfect for a longboard. Trades can mess it up as there is a 40km (26mi) fetch blowing from the SE.
