Brimms Ness - The Cove surf guide

Brimms Ness - The Cove is one of those surf spots that you can't overlook if you're on the north coast. Known for its consistency, it's often the place to be when other spots are flat. Located on a low-lying headland, it picks up swells from the deep Atlantic, making it a favorite for surfers in search of decent waves. The access to the surf is through private land, so be sure to park respectfully in the farmyard or find a spot out on the point, all while considering the local landowner's goodwill.

The Cove serves up a peaky right-hander that can get pretty fun, especially when the tide is just right. You'll see waves breaking over a shallow rock ledge, and it can handle swell sizes from about 3ft (1m) to 8ft (2.5m). It works best on a low to mid tide, with the ideal swell direction coming from the Northwest and the preferred wind blowing from the South. While itโ€™s not the heaviest wave around, it gives you enough time for a couple of solid maneuvers before it eases into the channel. Just keep an eye on the conditions, as the bottom can be shallow, and you might encounter rips and rocky areas when itโ€™s big.

Summer and autumn are the prime seasons for surfing here, making it a great time to hit the water. The crowd factor is usually pretty chill, with small groups out enjoying the waves. However, since take-off spots can get crowded quickly, it's important to maintain good vibes with fellow surfers. The Cove is definitely suited for intermediate surfers, especially if you're on a shortboard. Just remember to be courteous and drive slowly in the area, as the locals appreciate it.
