Brookings Jetty is a well-known surf spot located in Brookings, Oregon. The jetty runs southwest, offering some fun waves, especially during the summer and autumn months. It tends to attract a crowd on hot afternoons and weekends, but during off-peak times, it can be pretty chill. The beach here is user-friendly, with a nice gentle slope and plenty of whitewater for beginners to practice in.
The surf at Brookings Jetty is usually on the smaller side, most consistently in the waist-high to overhead range (about 1 to 2 meters), especially when the tide is medium to high. It handles swells from the south to the southwest and can work with sizes ranging from about 3 to 7 feet (0.9 to 2.1 meters). The best conditions usually happen when the swell is coming in from the southwest with a preferred northeast wind. At higher tides, the breaks are closer to shore and often mushy, making for easier rides. As the tide drops, the sand bottom can become quite shallow, producing some faster, hollow waves, both left and right, though closeout sets are common.
Getting to Brookings Jetty is straightforward. From Highway 101 south, take a left onto West Benham Lane, then left again onto Boat Basin Road. You can park in a dirt strip right in front of the surf spot. Even though the crowds can be bothersome, especially on weekends, the overall vibe is pretty mellow, and you'll often find room to paddle out, making it suitable for surfers of all levels—beginners to experts can all have a good time on different board types, including shortboards, funboards, longboards, and fishes.
