Brookings/South Jetty surf guide
Surf: Protected from prevailing NW summer winds by the Chetco River Jetty, this popular Brookings spot is a rare summertime haven. Takes anything from a NW to a S swell, which produce two-way peaks that break over a sand bottom on most any tide. A nice beachbreak, greatly enhanced by E and NE winds. Good fun at a foot or two, itβll handle surf up to about 8ft (2.5m). Good beginner spot, although, as with other NW rivermouths, sharks are a concern.
Environment: Free parking fronts on the beach, big RV park right across the street. The quiver of amenities includes free outside showers, restrooms, and phones. Most luxurious set-up on the southern Oregon coast. Watch out at low tides: it gets super shallow and the waves start to dredge. Gets crowded.
