Cachorro is a pocket beach located in a more secluded area, framed by scattered rocks at each end. This spot tends to offer some decent waves, with rights breaking off the headland and lefts rolling from the mini-point near Praia Meio. The sand in the middle can get shallow, causing the waves to close out rather quickly, especially when the conditions aren’t optimal.
The best time to surf Cachorro is when the swell is coming from the NorthEast, with also decent waves from the NorthWest. It handles swell sizes around 2ft (approximately 0.6 meters), breaking over uneven reef and sand. You can expect both left and right waves, but it’s better suited for intermediate surfers. The preferred wind direction is from the SouthEast, which can help clean up the waves. You can catch waves during low, mid, or high tide, making it a versatile spot depending on the day.
Despite the solid barrels on offer, Cachorro rarely gets overcrowded, giving you the chance to find some space to enjoy your session. It’s a good spot to practice and improve your skills without feeling rushed. It’s advisable to check the conditions before heading out, as the waves can be tricky and vary greatly with the tide and swell.
