Caleta Sama is a surf spot located along the Peruvian coast, known for its semi-consistent left pointbreak. It works best with moderate to large S-SW swells and can generate powerful, short lefthanders. The area is somewhat remote, making it less crowded compared to other locations, but this doesn't mean you won't find some locals out in the water. It's essential to be prepared for a challenging surf environment here.
This spot really shines with swells coming from the South and Southwest, and it can handle sizes up to around 4ft (1.2m). The take-off can be steep, which ensures a punchy wave that appeals to experienced surfers. Best conditions occur at low to mid tides, and when the wind is blowing from the east, you can expect cleaner waves. The reef is uneven, so take care while paddling out. Given its expert-level requirement, it’s not the best choice for beginners.
Caleta Sama has a solid reputation among local surfers, but it can be quite heavy, so make sure you’re comfortable in challenging surf before heading in. Just about 20 kilometers further south, there's Punta Colorado, a right reef that’s really popular with bodyboarders. It also varies in difficulty, so it's worth exploring if you're looking for different waves after your session at Caleta Sama.
