Canet Plage is the pick of the surf around Perpignan, a built-up beach on the east-facing coast of the Pyrénées Orientales. The wave sets up in the lee of the southern harbour jetty, where a half-decent left and a short right break over sand and pull in both longboarders and shortboarders.
When It Works
The trade-off on this east-facing stretch is that offshore wind shows up far more often than swell. It draws swell from east through south (E-S), with east the best direction, and the jetty left comes alive when an east-southeast swell finally lands. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Consistency is a bit hit and miss, so it pays to catch it on the right day.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. The wider area is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers around the Pont des Basses, with more options down the coast at Saint-Cyprien and Le Racou.

There are restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on the beach. For parking, you'll find a car park with free spaces alongside paid and roadside options.
