Cap Spartel surf guide

Cap Spartel is a surf spot located about 12 kilometers from Tangier. It’s known for its scenic views where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The area itself is not hugely consistent when it comes to waves, but it offers a few options for surfers looking to catch some swells. It’s a great place to enjoy the local culture and beautiful surroundings when you're not out on the water.

The surf here can be hit or miss. It handles swells coming from the West and North, and you can usually find surfable waves even at smaller sizes, starting around 1 foot (0.3 meters). The breaks happen mostly over uneven reefs and sand, with both left and right waves available. Mid to high tide is preferred for the best conditions, and the ideal wind direction is coming from the East. This spot is better suited for intermediate surfers, so keep that in mind when you paddle out.

When the swells are right, spots like Plage Sol offer decent waves in smaller conditions, while Aroussa Bahe features a righthander that starts from a rock. Just remember that the area lacks the consistency you might find at more famous surf destinations, so it's wise to check forecasts before you head over.
