Capoon's Bay, also known as Little Apple Bay, is a surf spot located on the north shore of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. This area is known for its laid-back vibe and offers a nice range of surfing options. The wave here breaks over reef, making it a popular choice for surfers looking for a bit of action without venturing too far from the beach. The bay can get a little crowded, especially when the conditions are right, so be prepared to share the space with fellow surfers.
The surf at Capoon's Bay is primarily a user-friendly A-frame reef break that can handle swells from 2ft (about 0.6 meters) all the way up to larger sizes. It's best when the swell comes from the North, but it also works with Northwest and Northeast swells. The wave offers both lefts and rights, with the lefts sometimes running nicely when the Northwest goes bigger. However, there’s also a softer right on the east side of the main peak, which is often used by stand-up paddleboarders and referred to as Gay Rights. The conditions are pretty forgiving, making it a great spot for beginners, especially when the tide is low, mid, or high, and the wind is coming from the Southeast.
Keep in mind that the area features some coral which can be a little sharp, so watch your step on the way in. Also, the atmosphere at Capoon's Bay can change quickly, so it's always good to check the surf forecast before heading out. While it’s not the most consistent spot, when it's on, it can offer enjoyable waves for all skill levels.
