More about Cardiff Reef surfspot

Three high-quality reef waves are soft during summer months but come alive with winter swells. The reef to the immediate north of the lagoon mouth is called Tippers, primarily a hollow, fast left and shorter, mushier right. Gets crowded. Just south is Suckouts, a hairball righthand barrel over a very shallow reef (like a miniature Shark Island). Easy to get hurt here. Experts/shortboards only. Then there’s the more mellow South Peak in front of the parking lot – long, quality rights peeling into the channel. Difficult to make it out during big swells. Some hollow sections; really lines up during low tide.

Access from the pay lot in front of the break, right off the 101.

You can almost always find something to surf at Cardiff Reef, but it will always be crowded. Access from the pay lot in front of the break, right off the 101.
