More about Cave Rock surfspot

When the swell gets overhead, Cave Rock comes to life, whipping up world-class, Hawaiian-style, righthand barrels that explode across the shallow reef. Made famous by Shaun Thomson and the Free Ride generation of the ‘70s, these gaping, spitting tubes are best when the S swell wraps in and the morning land breeze drifts down from the mountainous interior. The Pool section peels in front of the tidal sea pool while the gnarlier Rock rights are opposite the rock that gave the break its name. Paddling out at either is a real mission so time the lulls carefully.

This wave is capable of snapping both boards and people who push the limits, since the reef is so unforgiving and shallow. Suitable for experienced cave hunters only and there is never any shortage of them in the line-up. Not the sharkiest of spots, but keep an eye out.
