Cerro Hermoso surf guide

Cerro Hermoso is a laid-back surf spot located at a picturesque lagoon where the river meets the ocean. This area is known for its natural beauty and offers a quiet environment for surfers looking to catch some waves. It’s a great place for surfers of all abilities, but you’ll get the best experience under the right conditions.

The surf here is generally manageable, mainly working best with a southwest swell. You’ll find wave directions breaking both left and right, with sizes around 1 ft (0.3 meters) being optimal. While it can handle some southeast and west swells, it won’t perform well with too much size. The sand bottom helps provide a smooth ride, especially when the tide is low, mid, or high. For those starting out, Cerro Hermoso caters to beginners quite well, so it's ideal for getting in the water without feeling overwhelmed.

There are a couple of other spots nearby worth mentioning. Playa El Venada has some short but fun peaks that can be empty at times, and Playa Roca Blanca often offers easy, lazy rights that break off the western headland rocks. These spots are usually sheltered from the western breeze, making them good options if the wind is strong.
