More about Chatarra surfspot

General: Chatarra is considered by many to be one of the most incredible lefts in the Caribbean -- and when it's really good, it's the best wave on the whole island. Muscular swells hit the flat-ledged reef and create the meanest, most perfect left shack in PR. Chatarra breaks best with W in the swell direction and needs clean morning conditions, unless it's one of those rare offshore days. It turns into more of an A-frame when the swell is N, but can also be dangerously shallow at these times if it's big. It also needs a pretty big swell to start showing its teeth. Once again, getting out is a thrill, since there's only one entry/exit spot that's not laced with urchins (high tide is a little easier). Tides: Any Size: Head high-double overhead Wind: South Swell: NW Bottom: Shallow reef Paddling: A good amount of work when there is good surf. Spot Rating: On the right day this kegging left offers some of the best surf Puerto Rico has to offer.

Advanced to psycho depending on the swell.

Park right there.

Late summer and fall for tropical cyclone swells but late fall through early spring for consistency.

Crowd Factor: When it is working, yes. Local Vibe: Pretty heavy. Drop in and you'll likely have a problem.

Not bad.

Shallow lava reef.
