Chitose is a beach break sitting on the most exposed stretch of this coastline. Lefts and rights peel over a mix of sand and uneven reef, with sand-covered reefs shaping the banks into average beach break peaks that can reach head high.
When It Works
The swell window is wide, taking anything from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and the banks push up to head high as long as the tide doesn't climb too far. Being a consistent spot, it picks up waves regularly.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. The break comes to life on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call; once the tide gets too high, the waves tend to back off.
