Chitose surf guide

Chitose is a surf spot that sits in a pretty exposed part of the coastline. It offers a swell window from the South-East (SE) to North-East (NE). The beach has some sand-covered reefs that create average beach breaks, usually around head-high (about 2.5 meters) when the tide is right and not too high. Just south in Chikura, you’ll find a bit of protection from SW winds, though it doesn't catch the S swell quite as well.

This spot can handle swell sizes starting at 2 ft (0.6 meters), making it suitable for beginners looking to get their feet wet. You can catch lefts and rights here, with the best conditions showing up during low to mid tide. Beach breaks are what you’ll find, and they typically approach from the south and east. For the best experience, aim for a breeze coming from the west.

One nice thing about Chitose is that it provides a variety of surfing options thanks to the uneven reefs and sand banks. The area isn’t heavily crowded, which can be a plus, especially if you're trying to practice your skills. Parking is free and just a bit back from the beach, making it easy to grab your gear and hit the waves.
