One of the more improver-friendly spots on the North Shore, welcoming any swell onto 3 sections of righthand reef. The outside, middle and bowl all feature nice roll-ins, shredable walls and some inviting tubes in places. Best on small NW swells with any trade wind direction and even handles a bit of S wind. There's a bonus left off the middle section, but the paddle back out is no fun. Absolutely always crowded since it's in full view of the Kam H'way, plus it's an easy, yet long paddle using the rip to the left.
General: In winter, when the North Shore of Oahu is at its finest, Chun's Reef, while hardly empty is a good place to check out for intermediate surfers who are not ready for the extreme spots. Chun's is located between Jocko's and Waimea Bay, and offers both a left and a right that break across an elbow of oftentimes shallow and sharp reef. The left can be a bit more shouldery and forgiving, since it spills into a relatively deeper section of water. The right can be a bit faster, though shorter, but it does get very shallow (and the current turbulent) on the inside. While the Chun's lineup might not be as intense as, say Rockies, there will be plenty of locals out ripping. Tides: Can handle all tides, but generally best between the peak low and peak high. Size: Chest high-3 feet overhead Wind: Calm or light to moderate E to S. Swell: WNW to NNW Bottom: Reef Paddling: Moderate overall. Current on the inside can be bad on the rights. Spot Rating: Hollow and fast when it's on.

Winter
Crowd Factor: Moderate Local Vibe: Humility and respect a must.
There are easier rolling waves to the north at Rightovers and Leftovers, plus some suckier action at Alligator Rock. Tricky, rock-hopping entry and exit keeps the crowds manageable.
