More about Coconuts surfspot

On its day, Coconuts rivals and usually trumps the best waves on the island. Fully exposed on the tip of the fringing reef, Cocos cracks the coral with full-blooded lips that hiss and spit down the line, offering ample tube time and powerful pockets on the right side of the peak. The lefts can be doable when smaller and more SE in the swell. Unfortunately, it's very sensitive to wind, tide and swell direction to fire, so catching it at its best requires luck and timing. Glassy, high tide and SW swell are the ingredients to cook up a memorable session.

Experienced intermediates will handle smaller days when it can be hard to read with plenty of close-outs that put you on the inside just when the rogue sets arrive on a sharp, unforgiving reef. It's a hell of a long paddle from the resorts of Coconuts or Maninoa and returning on the dropping tide exhausted is not recommended so hire a boat. There are more waves on this stretch of reef depending on swell size and direction.
