Commercial Pier surf guide

Commercial Pier, also known as Anglin's Pier, is located in Lauderdale by the Sea, just east of Commercial Boulevard. This spot is one of the few in Fort Lauderdale that has bounced back nicely from beach restoration projects. It has easy access for surfers, making it a convenient choice for a quick surf session. The waves here can work pretty decently, especially given the right conditions, but don’t expect it to be a surf destination by itself.

The surf breaks mainly on NNE swells and can handle sizes from about 2ft to 6ft (0.6m to 1.8m). The bottom is sand, and the waves generally break left. It's best when the wind is coming from the South to Southwest, but it can still be surfed when the wind is from the West or Northwest. You can typically catch waves during low to mid tides, so timing your session is key. The crowd can get pretty heavy, and you’ll see surfers of all abilities here, from beginners to experts. Bring along a shortboard, funboard, longboard, or fish—there’s enough variety for whatever you like to ride.

Even though it’s a pretty average spot overall, it does see an annual ESA contest, showing that it has its moments. Just be wary of the pier when paddling out, as that can be a hazard. If you’re in the area during fall to spring, it might be worth checking out, but don’t expect it to be the highlight of your surfing trip.
