Crash Boat surf guide

Crash Boat is located on the south side of a jetty and is known for its mix of fun waves and a bit of unpredictability. It has a sandy reef bottom shaped by some old navy docks, which gives it a unique setup. When the conditions are right, it's a decent spot to catch some waves, but it’s often more of a novelty unless there’s a solid northwest swell rolling in.

The wave at Crash Boat typically breaks as a right over a sand bottom, coming in from deeper water and rolling all the way to the shore. It generally handles swell sizes from around 4 ft (1.2 m) to 10 ft (3 m), so you can find some fun rides when the swell hits right. The best swell direction is from the Northwest, but it can also work with some West and North swell. For optimal conditions, you want a Northeast wind and can surf it at low, mid, or high tide. The wave can get chest high to overhead, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. Just be aware that it can get crowded, especially when people know it’s breaking.

Accessing Crash Boat is pretty straightforward, with signs directing you once you’re close on Route 107. Be prepared to share the water with some aggressive local bodyboarders, as they can make things a bit tense. The vibe can get a bit intense with the locals, so keep that in mind. While you’re enjoying your session, don’t forget to take care of the beach environment, as there tends to be some trash around. Overall, it's a spot that offers some decent waves when conditions align, especially in the late summer and fall for tropical swells, and more consistently from late fall through early spring.
