Crystals surf guide

Crystals is a surf spot located next to Absecon Inlet at the north end of Atlantic City. This spot features a shallow beachbreak that peaks up near the jetty and is best with northeast swells. While it can be attractive to intermediate surfers and bodyboarders, it generally doesn’t handle as much size compared to the breaks further south. The vibe here tends to be mellow, with a moderate crowd, so everyone usually gets their chance to surf. However, you should be aware of potential issues with parking in this area.

When it comes to surfing at Crystals, the waves mostly break right and offer options for both shortboards and bodyboards. The spot can handle swell sizes from around 3 feet (1 meter) to 10 feet (3 meters) and is best during low to mid tides. The optimal swell direction is northeast, which works well in combination with northwest to north-northwest winds to clean things up. On good days, it can be fun, especially with the right conditions.

While you're there, keep an eye out for summer tourists and the occasional rip current. The sand bottom can be decent, but make sure you’re prepared for varying conditions. Crystals is best surfed from September through March, so plan your sessions accordingly.
