D River in Lincoln City is a popular but often overlooked surf spot along this 6-mile (10 km) stretch of coastline. It's definitely got a surf vibe with surfers hitting the waves, but don't expect the local surf quality to always match the scene. The beach around here is mostly standard beachbreak at both the northern and southern ends, but the area beneath the central bluff features some nice reef formations that get covered by sandbars, which can create fun opportunities for surfers who are willing to explore a bit.
You might want to check out D River itself, especially on smaller swells. With optimal conditions coming from the west and preferrable east winds, you'll find some decent rides here that break over sand. The water is suitable for beginners, with wave types that go left and right. The waves can handle swells from about 2 ft. (0.6 m) and are best during low, mid, or high tide. If you're looking for a less crowded session, make the effort to walk along the stretch of beach, and you'll likely find a spot that's as enjoyable as it is uncrowded.
At the north end of Lincoln City, Roads End Beach also has some interesting waves, especially when the swell hits about 12 ft. (3.6 m). This area features some outside reefs and varied beachbreak peaks, providing a mix of rides for different skill levels. Just keep in mind that currents can be strong, and it can blow out quickly, so itβs good to stay aware of changing conditions.
