More about D River - Lincoln City surfspot

Three resident surf shops give this 6mi (10km) long shoreline town a certain surf consciousness that isn’t generally known to be reflected in the local surf quality. Don’t be so sure. While it’s more or less standard beachbreak towards the north and south ends of town, the beach below the central bluff-lined shore is nicely marbled with reef formations, mostly covered with sandbars. On smaller summer and autumn swells with glassy or E wind conditions, you can find an uncrowded spot on this long stretch of beach if you take the trouble to walk in. About midtown, check out the ‘D’ River State Wayside on a small, clean swell. The river flow moves the bars around frequently, so you never know. At the extreme north end of town at Roads End Beach State Roadside, an outside reef holds up to 12ft (3.6m) with good shape, and a series of beachbreak peaks offers a diverse selection of rides. At the turnaround in the park look for hard-breaking tubes with strong rips and sharks lurkin’. Blows out readily.

No public access in mid-town, otherwise easy parking at the most surfed spots in the Lincoln City area, which are either north or south of town.
